I had to reread that comment about your “1900th flight”. Very impressive!

This summer has been a bust for me. I have not flown a single rocket since NSL at the end of May. Hopefully I’ll get some in the air in September.

Thanks for the fun read.

I have a couple of Quest editions of the Zenith II in the kit stash. One is noted as having a crushed main body tube. It could certainly be a payload section donor if you've an interest.

I also have one of the Akela-1s that Earl sent out, but have not built it. Hmmmmm........

I've managed to fly once a month, but that includes only one flight in June due to launcher issues and bugs.

Thank you. I've yet to check the parts stash downstairs. I picked up a bunch of old MPC tubes and parts, but my wife has been working me to death on this vacation and all I've been able to accomplish is some priming of the Semroc Magnum Sprint and another bird whose identity escapes me at the moment. I'm hoping for a break tomorrow.

The concept of work and vacation should be mutually exclusive.
You should be using your vacation doing something YOU want.

That sounds nice, but there's a patio project that begs to differ with you.

That's why I hire out work like that.
Intrudes on "fun" time too much, which I value above all else.
I have a job, I don't want another at HOME.

Man, I wish we had the money to hire this job out, but it was so bad that no one wanted it. (The one guy who showed up for an estimate told us $40k, and he said he wouldn't do it because he thought that was the lowball offer and it would actually be a lot more, but he likely couldn't guarantee his work.) Finished up yesterday and today, which involved renting a big cutter and wrangling it down to the pool, then back up to the driveway once we were done. I was a few minutes short of heatstroke when we finished, so I've kind of taken it easy the rest of the day. Amazing how shaky I feel. Since I'm done in several ways, I've been sitting on the couch with a cutting board doing fins for a couple of long neglected projects. I've got an old Estes ARCAS that was an eBay buy, but built with funky fins. I flew it once and tore the old fins off, and I cut a new set for it today. The other project is the Estes D.O.M. Orbital Transport Laboratory that got hit by a car last spring. Everything was crushed other than the nose cone, which I found the other night. I cut fins for v.2, so with a little luck I should have that done for the 9-11 launch. Did I mention that the launch today was cancelled because of heat and possibility of rain? Lovely weekend for everyone. I'm almost looking forward to working on Monday.

Sound like some of the estimates we have had in the past. A sky high price, and not much enthusiasm to do the work. Once in awhile you get a really decent bid, the contractor seems competent and friendly, and reviews are very good. That’s when I start questioning if it’s too good to be true.
