Remembering Gleda.

My favorite personal Gleda Estes story happened at NARAM-58 in Missouri.

I was a meeting room picking up my registration packet and checking in. There were about 30-40 people in the room and I was halfway back in the room from the doorway.

Vern and Gleda walked in the room and many folks in the room walked over to greet them.

I saw that it may be awhile before I would get a chance to speak with Vern and Gleda so I decided to leave the room.

As I was doing this a voice called out:

"Bob Sanford! Where are you going?!"

It was Gleda. She somehow had noticed me among all the other people.
I walked over to her and she gave me a hug. We did some small talk and I said 'Hi' to Vern before the both of them turned their attention to someone else.

Gleda was amazing.

My condolences to the Estes family and all their friends. I had been looking forward to seeing her again at NARAM-65.

A great lady who had a big hand in the launch and early success of Estes Industries. Proud to have known her well for many, many years.

Gleda was a super lady and a wonder woman! What a blessing! She and Vern were an amazing couple and very much in love! It was an honor and privilege to meet Gleda and Vern in person at NARAM 60 in Pueblo, Colorado, in August 2018.

Our thoughts and prayers for the Lord's comfort go out to Vern and the family. May the Lord give you His peace and keep you close in His loving embrace.

Kind regards,

Wow, what a foundational life she led; an inspiration to many, and I know a dear, dear companion and true partner to Vern in his work in establishing and running Estes Industries for so many years. I'm sure Vern would say that Gleda was as much responsible for the success of Estes as he was!

Sincerest condolences to Vern and the rest of the family. There is now a gap in the rocketry community that will never truly be filled.

Our many prayers for the Lord's hand, peace, and comfort at this time.

Earl

There are no words right now. Avis and I were so looking forward to spending just a little more time with both Vern and Gleda at NARAM in August.

We've had the chance to spend little bits of time with them both when they were in the Seattle area for Museum of Flight-related things and NARCON in 2015, and at NSL 2013, NARAM-56 and -60 in Pueblo and NARAM-61 in Muncie.

Ever since Gleda met Avis at Pat Fitzpatrick's house after a July 2014 MoF event and we had a little harp music (Avis plays Celtic harp) that's the first thing Gleda would as me or us about.

There's no way any of the rest of us will miss her as much as Vern will, but MANY of us will miss her dearly.

Very sad news.
I knew her health had been suffering, so in a sense it's not a big surprise, but still sad.
Rest in Peace Glenda, and condolences to Vern on his loss.

Obituary listing in the local Canon City newspaper. I think this just has been posted there.
