Recon-1 is 1446. Next is the 1447 America set and it used the Sky Writer can, iirc. The next number down on starter sets with a boxy fin can was in the late 80's with the Screaming Eagle starter set and I've never seen one to know which can it used. So, to answer your question, I have no clue.

Isn't it funny how some things just seem to get hard to find?

Here is a PDF of the decals. According to the offers included in the box, my starter set dates to 1990/1991. I have pictures of the kit contents, but they are too big to post. I confirm that the fin can/nose cone is the same as the america set. the body tube is 12.5" long.

The bags that the kits are in are somewhat cloudy. this is the best I can get.
Compared to the fin can on the Challenger I it looks to be the same fin unit.
