Boyce Aerospace Cineroc Builds
Today, I got my Boyce Aerospace Cineroc clone delivered. The parts are very nice and were packaged well.
I'm wondering if there's anyone here who has mounted their 808 video camera in this product. I'm looking for suggestions and tips about how to do that (or not do it!). All ideas welcome!

I do not have any experience with the Boyce Cineroc, but if you have access to a 3D printer I highly recommend this version:
https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2995189 The sled is setup to use a "matecam" 808. The profile is almost the same as a real Cineroc, except the lens hood is wider to work with the lens of the matecam. I've flown my cardstock Omega in the picture on a C11-3 several times, the videos that it took were great.

I'm not familiar with the Boyce Cineroc, but I had a great deal of experience with the original Estes Cineroc back in the 1970-1973 time period. I even managed to crash and destroy four of them (a lawn dart onto asphalt adds a new definition to 'shovel recovery').
If the Boyce is set up like the original, there is a small mirror that lets the sideways mounted camera look down the side of the rocket - but there is a drawback to this arrangement. Everything it records is backwards. The old Super 8 projector that I used had a 'slow motion' setting - it's amazing what you can see at 1 or 2 frames per second. Booster engine CATO's (this was the era of the D13 and CATOs were common - way worse than D12s), fins ripping off, etc. You may want to invest in the appropriate s/w to allow you to do that with the digital versions. |

Great project! I did two Cineroc projects of my own back in 2004-2005.
One was called Cineroc 2004, it had a mini pen cam 1x1x3 camera in it and used a mirror like the old Estes Cineroc. The other one was called Cineroc 2005 and it used a wireless camera, could watch and record flight from ground. Guess what the next Cineroc will be called if I do one this year?

I built my own Cineroc clone several years ago by turning parts on the lathe and using a tiny TV transmitter unit. This was before the 808 keychain cams came out and before SD cards became affordable to poor folks like me. The camera lens was on a ribbon cable that allowed me to directly point it down from within the shroud. The shroud had to be made wider than the real Cineroc. I later made one for the SEMROC mini Omega. I forget which cam I used in it. I'll have to dig it out and look.

Won a $100 because of the Cineroc with Apogee
I already had rocsim, so they gave me a $100 credit on Saturn 1b See last page

Cineroc Mini 808 1080p Keychain Camera
I was given a 3D printed mini Cineroc payload section and I installed an 808 1080p Keychain camera in it. Loaded it up on top of a scratch build 2-clustered Deuce rocket I named "Wind Rider"... Great flight and great video. I actually build two versions of the Wind Rider to carry the Mini Cineroc pod. The Mini Cineroc 808 files can be found here on Thingiverse. I uploaded a video of the first flight on YouTube here . There is a Cineroc Tribute Facebook page that shows the development of the 3D printed version and also some great videos have been posted.
I never had an original Cineroc but with today's technology and the help of some good friends (Jim Filler, Scott Branche, and Kevin Johnson) I was able to enjoy this. - Raul

Those two B6-4s in that "Wind Rider" rocket had WAY short delays.
Looked more like B6-2s at longest. I do not understand the concept of using 2 clustered B6's in ANYTHING. A 3 engine cluster I understand. It gives one more than a full C but less than a full D. It makes far more sense to use a single Estes C6-5, C11-5, C5-3, or Quest C12-4. Unless one is making a scale Gemini Titan, two engine clusters make zero sense at all to me. They just add complexity where none is needed. Just use the proper impulse sized single engine.

Bill, you seem to forget rules #1 and #2, ONCE AGAIN.
#1 ghrocketman is ALWAYS correct. #2 When in doubt, always refer back to rule #1.
