I could certainly be a curmudgeon too- I've been fooing with model rockets for over 50 years.

Also I'm more qualified to talk about stress analysis than most people here, but I'm thinking of a way to do a test to quantify it just for grins.

I don't disagree too much about the visual result of papering. I'm a little embarfassed that my finishing standards might be lower than those guys.

Add Paper Skins To Balsa Wood Fins To Make A Stronger Model Rocket

Tissuing glider wings.... papering balsa fins... these are ancient techniques for adding strength to balsa structures.

I wouldn't pay too much heed to these curmudgeons on this board. They are so "you are either with us, or against us" given to such STRONG opinions and absolutes. Chill out guys...

Well said. If we were on FB I would have “LIKED” this ...

Don't be. The type of glue and choice of paper effects the outcome. Using white glue and office paper isn't going to have the same result as using a "no wrinkle glue" made for paper and heavier weight paper.

Another papering link - http://www.ninfinger.org/rockets/fins.html

Instead of "Rollataq" adhesive that Sven recommends, I use Scotch quick drying Tacky Glue. You can find it wherever scrap booking supplies are sold. There are many other adhesives that are sold to scrap bookers, but this stuff is fast and permanent. If you use regular "office paper" the glue pulls the paper down so hard that the balsa grain prints through the paper. Using a heavier weight paper like card stock prevents this.
