Default Black Brant II reissue (7243) - unchanged?

Good Afternoon All;

Question about the re-issued (current) version of the Estes Black Brant II...

Is that kit unchanged from the earlier generation; is there any tangible reason (e.g. level of scale detail) that would warrant purchasing an older kit over the current offering (assuming it is being purchased to build and fly, not to collect)?

Thanks,
Dave

Best that I can tell they are the same.

I looked at some online plans that show plastic toothpick antennae. My kit from the 80's used wooden toothpicks.

I think the tubes were better back then, but the flipside is the original had a full length tube and getting old kits with undamaged tubes, especially long ones, is getting harder.

I’ve built the reissued BBII. The differences from the original kit are:
1) instead of (3) flat toothpicks for antennae the kit has (3) round molded antennae and they insert through the payload tube and are glued from within.
2) the bottom of the payload coupler is plastic with a shock cord anchor molded into it.
3) the decals are waterslide. There was at least one year of the old BBII that had peel and stick decals.

These are all the differences that I can recall.

To answer the original poster’s question: I personally prefer the NEW BBII kit.

I know the old one I just built has the peel and stick decals. Sounds like the new one has some upsides that are nice.

The vast majority of the earlier BBII production runs had waterslide decals. I'm pretty sure the Peel-N-Cuss decals started sometime around the Tunick era or a little later, most likely when production was moved to China.

Which makes sense as I recall one I built back in the 90's had water slide not stickers. I was a little surprised when I discovered what mine actually has.
