Starter sets have motors.

Launch sets do not have motors.

From what I was told, Starter sets of the not so distant past that came from China were packaged in a way that would allow the motors to be inserted once they arrived in the USA. For instance: Plastic clamshell package with an open spot on the bottom side that allowed the motors to be inserted and then the opening covered with a thick sticker. Some of the Star Wars Episode One rockets were also like that (mini-X-Wing with A10-3T motor inserted). The mini X-wing was in a plastic pack with a cardboard backing card, and the card has a hole in the back for the motor insertion. After the motor and igniter bag was inserted, it was covered with a sticker with the CSFM seal.

Less potent: C6-5 of the early 1970's actually had close to 6 Newtons of average thrust. Now it is less than that. You'll have to check the actual peak thrust, sustaining thrust and burn time.

Try flying a Loadstar II with C6-0 to C6-7 and watch it arc over and stage horizontally and either crash before or ejection or eject just before crashing. It NEEDS a C5-0 booster or a D12-0 booster.

C11-0 would work too.
I like POWR-PRANGS though.

Too bad. Especially since a “Sixty Acre Park” sounds like you could still socially distance reasonably well there with events approaching the size of the Woodstock Festival ...

Yes....which is one reason I was dismayed to see it closed. It had remained in use even after many parks were closed. It's really two fields, with a road running west to east between them. The northern portion is not quite twice the size of the southern portion, and that's the one you usually see in pictures posted from there.

During soccer season the north field is set up with sixteen soccer fields and the south with another nine. When it is NOT in used for soccer it is the only King County park which explicitly allows rocketry.

The downside for me is that, under normal circumstances it's a 45 minute drive to get there and often much more than that to get home (traffic down the east side is worse in the afternoons, even on weekends). Lately it's been ~35 minutes either way, thanks to the shutdowns. So I guess it was inevitable that it would be closed along with other excuses to drive more or further than strictly necessary.

To swing vaguely back toward topic - I wonder if "early 1970s" vintage motors is what turbofireball was thinking of in his comment about "less potent".

King County parks are supposed to open up again for non-team recreation tomorrow. So this “various ages of B6-4s” comparison experiment should take place in the next few days.

Ahh, good! Well, even better for you that things are opening up and you can fly some!

Shown as "in stock" on the Estes website: https://estesrockets.com/product/001617-c5-3-engines/

I have a query into AC Supply to ask if/when they will get them, but they've been worse than usual about answering email of late.

I still need to write up my new vs. old B6-4 test flying results. Maybe later today or tomorrow.

Oh man!! They were not in stock earlier this week when I ordered my Doorknob. Free shipping still, may have to get some.

I wonder if Hobby Lobby will carry these eventually?

Heard back from AC Supply. Doug said no C5-3s yet.

No idea about Hobby Lobby. Some of their stocking choices with respect to motors make little sense to me when bounced against the kits they carry.
