I think you should go with Kickstarter. You could budget out the project to include or not include decals, or offer decals as an add-on, etc. You've certainly got the artwork to show the final product.

I've seen some cazy-successful Kickstarters. There's a Robotech tactical game I'm currently supporting that started at a 70K goal, and has reached over a half-million dollars making more options and more materials possible in the product (or as add-ons):

Seems to be a good system. I've pledged into book projects that have moved from paperbacks to hardcover, added color pages & etc beyond their initial ventures as well.
