Default Making a Drop Nose nose cone

This is a technique I use to make a nose cone for a Starship Nova upscale.

This upscale is only 138% to fit a BT-56 body tube.

Step 1. Turn the two parts.
Step 2. Cut a 20 degree angle in both pieces.
Step 3. Glue them together.
Step 4. Add some balsa filler strips.
Step 5. Add some wood filler and sand.

The last pic is a jpeg of the original CAD drawing.

Yes I made four of them!

It also looks great close-up, especially on the upscale.

Thanks Bill, but these are much smaller than the one I brought to NARAM.

These fit a BT-56 body tube.

I've made a few extra of these if anyone is interested. Not sure what I'll sell them for but it will be a fair price...especially to me!

I will include fin patterns and tube length for you to supply as well as the ring patterns.

You will have to make all that stuff.

And get ahold of astronboy 'cause he does have the decal sets.

These are for a 138% upscale to fit a BT-56 and for a single 24mm motor power.

I thought the original was a bit too small and my BT-70 upscale...well, that was just way too durn big!

I was afraid I'd put my eye out with it!

sandman,

you selling fully completed and sanded cones, or just the turned parts to make our own? Please advise.

Thanks,
EV

Default These are specifically for the Starship Nova but other models use the same cone.

The nose cones I'm making are 98% completed. Some filling and sanding is required but not much. Probably not much more than a normal nose cone to finish up.

After that a good coat of balsa sealer (I use plain ol' Elmer's white glue) then they are ready for primer.

I don't expect to make a lot of these. They are all made by hand individually. It's more "carving" than turning for me.

I leave the wood dowel attached 'cause it makes it easier to handle and paint.

I also include the pattern sets for the fins and alignment guides for an upscaled Starship Nova to a BT-56 main body.

It should fly sweet on an E9-6 motor!

I have the cones ready...well, I have 3 left but I could make more.

If you want one here is another idea!

SEMROC has the BT-56 sized tube in a "heavy duty" version designed for thier SLS kits.

These tubes are really HEAVY DUTY!

I have some of this tube so I could make one of these cones with a smaller shoulder diameter to fit this tube.

Remember to specify which BT-56 you would want!

A Starship Nova, Nova Scoutship or even a Nimbus in a BT-56 and an E9 should scream!

I have one left if anyone is still interested.

If more are interested...gimme a day or two and I'll just make more.

OK...maybe 3 days.
