Default Removing A "STUCK" Estes PNC-101 Maxi-Brute Nose Cone ! ! !

Recently, I put up a "WANTED" thread, looking for an ESTES PNC-101 Nose Cone. Eventually, I was able to get one from a well-know figure in Rocketry, Chas Russell.

https://www.oldrocketforum.com/showthread.php?t=18718

There was one "problem" . . . Chas posted that his Nose Cone was from the Estes re-issue of the Maxi-Brute V-2 and that, because of the packing method used, the Nose Cone had been forced down into a section of BT-101 and would not budge ! That, of course meant that the BT-101 would have to be sacrificed ( a sad thought ).

Several others came up with suggestions, but to no avail . . . To make a long story short, it arrived, jammed down into the BT-101 about 5/16" and had formed a "ridge" that locked it in place within the Tube.

I had been thinking about the problem, while the PNC-101 was in-transit . . . I was determined to, at least, try to save the BT-101, if I could.

HOW DID I DO IT ?

METHOD :

I worked the Tip in a circular motion exerting FIRM, steady downward pressure towards the Base, while simultaneously pulling the Tube FIRMLY towards the Tip. I did this in "stages", rather than continuously . . . After a couple of minutes, the Nose Cone popped free !

If you encounter this problem, it's reasonable to assume that the same technique would work on other size components, too !

I attached the two images that Chas supplied, for reference . . .

Image 1 shows the stuck PNC-101 Nose Cone.

Image 2 compares an Original PNC-101 on the right with the re-issue on the left.

Images 3 & 4 show the components separated, safely. ( Note : The "ridge" remains in the BT-101 )

I hope this tip is helpful to others !
