Tyvek! I forgot about that one. Flexible and tough, but I have no idea if it tends to stretch under tension. I'm thinking not because USPS priority envelopes are made out of them? Can regular epoxy be used as an adhesive for tyvek?

I've never heard of it before but it sounds like intriguing stuff, real interesting properties. Does it resist streteching? If it does then it would make ideal hinge material.

You can use regular epoxy to stick down Kevlar and to fill the weave. Just don't use 5-minute GARBAGE.
Keep it AWAY from the hinge joint and be aware that it flows.
I would not expect any stretch.

Generally where Tyvek is good, Kevlar is better.

I have some of the aluminum tape and can mail you a sample if interested.

Thanks Joe, very generous of you! I just checked my miscellaneous drawer and found a roll of what I think is aluminum duct tape. Does the adhesive side look the same as the outside when you peel back the paper backing?
I'm assuming aluminum tape is not the same thing as mylar tape even though they resemble each other?

The aluminum tape is actual aluminum, and yes, the sticky side looks just like the side without adhesive. The adhesive on this stuff is extremely aggressive.

Mylar is a plastic material. It is not particularly stretchy. Neither is Tyvek, which is spun polyethylene fiber that has been laid down as a mat on a chill roll. It is breathable due to small open areas in the mat and so epoxy should permeate sufficiently well to give it good adhesion.

Wood glue works well on Tyvek. Semroc used it on their Scout and Sprite kit to hold down the motor hook. Fliskits also used it for the same purpose on their Tumbleweed kit as well.

Definitely something for me to consider (if tyvek resists stretching under a shock load) since wood glue would penetrate the balsa much better than epoxy (I think).
