Default BSG 1.6X Colonial Viper

I still have a little more to do. This is about a 1.6X upscale of the Estes Colonial Viper. Main tubes are BT-60. I offset the 24mm motor mount, I remember the the original I had as a kid tended to arch over and my research supports that memory, so hoping this offsets that some. Plan on launching it at our next club launch.

I always thought they arched over because of the large fins.

My 1:1 clone has only flown once, but it had a corkscrew flight pattern. I just figured it was because of the odd cut out in the nose cone.

I had an original from back in the day (received for Christmas '78) and flew it a number of times. I don't recall any 'off normal' flight characteristics, but thinking about what Bill (Wallyum) mentioned on the angle cut nosecone, in hindsight I'm somewhat surprised that there wasn't the occasional flight issue. Flew very well as I recall.

My original BSG Viper and clone both fly in a normal straight flight path.
No "Arcing Over" or spiral either.

Well, in a few weeks I'll have my answer when I fly it. It will be either okay or not. I spent the time to make sure I had the fins, tubes, and the side panels as straight as I could.

I've built and flown an entire squadron of Vipers but all fly straight and true even as a 4 engine cluster. Maybe the arching is from too much nose weight?

For some ideas for Estes Vipers, clusters or scratch builds, including Estes,' John Boren's 2.76 upscale take a look at my Viper page: http://www.vernarockets.com/id26.html

Oh yeah, I scoured through all your pages back when I started this build many years ago, you built some absolutely awesome vipers!

I actually did the construction on this 12 years ago, and then it sat on a shelf unpainted. Last week I finally decided to finish it.

Your Viper looks great! I hope you can post some launch photos here when you fly it.
