Default Semroc X-Ray X-kit.

This Semroc X-Kit of the Estes X-Ray has the best balsa I've ever had the pleasure to
work with. The picture isn't that good but the fins, transition and nose cone are perfect!

Two coats of Pactra Fillercoat...to be honest, it should not be painted...

I wish Randy would re-release the X-kits.

The X-Ray was my third rocket back in the day.

Bob
p.s. of course it'll be painted thanks to Gordy's decals

I cloned one a few years back with Semroc parts. It's the straightest flyer in my fleet. I finished it in the blue/white scheme. I added an engine hook and mounted the shock cord externally to mitigate burn through and free up more space inside the BT-20. I think I've flown it more times than any other rocket.

Check out this great flight video of a 7X version.
The owner put his original X-Ray in the payload section.

I never built an X-Ray as a kid, but I’ve got a 3X upscale ready to paint. This was built by a friend 25 years ago, when we were doing high power. It sat in his shop attic until maybe a year ago. He gave it to me to complete.

It’s sitting next to my completed Super Cobra (4x24mm), and my Super Sky Hook (using Estes Panavia kit with new fins). I haven’t done much building or finishing the last couple months. I’ve been more interested in getting outside to do some major landscaping in our yard. But I’m thinking I’ll work on the X-Ray next.

Carl was a perfectionist. His turned balsa parts put BMS stuff to shame, IMHO.

The Estes Constellation and X-Ray were my favorite payload rockets as a kid - they gave a lot of bugs rides up into the blue. I cloned them both with Semroc parts quite a while back, and painted the X-Ray in the classic catalog decor.

You know, bees are really upset after a rocket flight
