Well, that brings back some memories! I don’t recall that I had one back in my Cub Scout days (also very early 70s), but I believe a couple other ‘denmates’ did.

But, I did have a microscope around the same time that used two penlight batteries. Loved that micrscope. I remember getting my first set of alkaline batteries for it and I was amazed, for the times, how much longer they lasted than the old carbon zinc batteries.
