Steve-

Thanks for the info and link. I was like Vanel; that MJG reference flew over my head too. Never heard of ‘em.

Hope you were ok through this last hurricane. Geez, the Gulf coast has just really been walloped this year.

Earl

They work, and work well. I always use a 12v car battery jumper unit.

The MJG Firewire initiators will fit the nozzle of D12s and larger BP motors. I use them in a model that uses 3 D12s. You should hook one up to your launch system to ensure they continuity check safely. I fly off of the DARS 12v system and have never had an issue with them.
Haven't had a chance to fly this year, but hope to fly the model with three boosters in separate tumbling stages (Moh, Lari, and Coily - The Three Stages).

I bought a box of 80 MJG Firewires from Chris Short at Chris' Rocket Supplies.

I just noticed that the C18W and D20W are up on thrustcurve.org. Sorry if this is old news. I plan on giving OR a good workout with these new motor files.

Did our first Q-Jet cluster saturday.

Four C12-6 in an Ace Mini Allegro

stock 'initiators'

instant ignition of all four and a great fast, smokey flight.

( now, fill up the mini Katana and fly it, lol )

I use these for BP clusters, the mini size for B6/C6 motors, and the standard size for C11/D12 motors:

https://electricmatch.com/rocketry/...rocket-starters

The standard size will often fit B6/C6 nozzles, but not always, they're right on the edge of being too large.

In any case, those C18/D20 motors should be great fun! I'll definitely try using them in clusters.

What is the planned release date?

Since Gary posted a release announcement for these over on TRF (and I see now, he did so here as well), I figure I can finally admit that I've flown a few betas of both the C18s and D20s.

Here's my most recent Nova Payloader on a C18, flown on a beta C18-6W on August 30th.

This is a frame from an iPhone slow-motion video of the liftoff, so not nearly as pretty as the picture by Jim Wilkerson that Gary posted in the big Aerotech thread on that other forum and in the announcement post here .

Where the Black Max Q-Jets are quieter than an Estes black powder motor, these, as my friend Tim Quigg would say, are "expressive".

0-218 mph in 0.5 seconds and less than 100 feet!
