My Super Orbital Transport wears Tango Papa decals. The absolute best decals. I had them for 10 years before I used them. Slid on easily.

And for those wondering why I waited 10 years — I enlarged all the templates for balsa parts, and hand cut them from mostly basswood. Glider was balsa.
And the sanding! Oh, the sanding! And the grain filling!

Default Estes Mini Max Kits

Looks like there is some interest in this nice little kit from Estes, I just checked Ebay, they are asking in the $40 plus range now plus huge shipping. Everyone likes to score big on sales of older kits, and obviously many collectors will pay big dollars for some real rare stuff. But in some cases it is getting ridiculous, imho.

I have two Mini Max kits that I will offer for sale to someone that will in fact build them, I like Lee Reep's comment about his granddaughter. But obviously once they are out of my hands what the new owner does is their business.

As I don't sell a lot on line, and I have a couple items currently listed on that other forum, and in response to those in this thread, would $25US per kit be a reasonable ask? $45US for the pair? They would be coming from Alberta Canada, and I have already done some preliminary shipping pricing, approximately $20US, if both go the shipping is the same, the main criteria is box size rather than mass.

I tried to upload a photo of the two kits with no joy, but can forward it to prospective buyers.

If there is any interest, please feel free to PM me or e-mail direct to:

$40 for an Estes Mini-Max kit is insane.

The ONLY Mini-Max worth close to that is an original CENTURI Mini-Max F97 rocket ENGINE which I would gladly pay.

$25 is a reasonable price for this OOP kit.

I have to wonder, does Estes discontinue stuff like this on purpose in order to create "better get it while it's available" demand? I just don't buy the "it wasn't selling well so we got rid of it" line in cases like this kit and the Mega Max.

That amazes me too.
The plastic model industry keeps producing kits from the 70s in just updated boxes.

I talked to John Boren about this in the past at a launch in Pueblo. As much as we love kits like the Mini Max, if sales drop off, they get discontinued. Big Berthas and Alphas always sell, and they will likely be available forever. I can imagine that when they decide to continue a kit, factors like ordering thousands of tubes and nose cones becomes a huge consideration. Maybe easy to use nose cones up, but custom length body tubes would certainly be a big issue.

If a rocket kit comes out that I like, I buy multiples. When the Interceptor and Interceptor-E were released around 2010, I bought 8 standards, 7 “E” models. Then Estes brought back the standard. They should bring back the “E”. (For others, I’m good.)
