Really clean looking build.

I have one'needs paint,etc.' phase

Built , and shredded, quite a few of those back int he day.

Note you did not use the plastic Maxi ALpha 3 fin unit on yours.. lot cleaner look.

I intend to use basswood fins on the one I build, mounted with epoxy.
Stock Maxi Alpha 3 fins are junk.
Back around 1989 we shredded the fins off my buddies MA3 with a measley Composite Dynamics E20-4. Those have barely more kick than a D12.
It shredded the fins off at about 150', then continued fairly straight to apogee.
That one wisely had the fins replaced with basswood as well before it's next flight.
It flew really well on 80n-sec Composite Dynamics F's after that.

Main reason why I like the Original Maxi Alpha over the Maxi Alpha 3 is the use of decent wood fins instead of the crappy Maxi Alpha 3 fin design. If they made a proper fin CAN on the Maxi Alpha 3, it would be different.

, if you have to ask what is "NORMAL" , you probably aren't !

Failure may not be an OPTION, but it is ALWAYS a POSSIBILITY.
ALL systems are GO for MAYHEM, CHAOS, and HAVOC !

Thx for the compliment. 2 reasons I went with the Execusioner fins; 1) I had 2 unbuilt kits, and saved myself buying another Maxi. 2), Had the original back in '82...and even then I wasn't crazy about the plasic/flimsy fins. When I did the clone, I knew the fins would look "off", but the appearance grew on me, and I actually prefer the sleeker lines with the narrower 'Cusioner fins. The original height remains the same. I extended the Motor tube about 15-18" forward for better CG. Of course, without Mark and Stickershock it would have never happened. I'd never pay $200.00 for an original, when other than the box, all you're paying the extra money for is decals.

I think it looks far better with YOUR fins then using the junk Estes MA3 fins.
Far more durable too. Those will survive on a G80 and probably a H128.
MA3 fins won't even handle an E20.

Looks great. Love this rocket.

I've had everything I need to clone one of these cut and ready to go for a while now. Just need to get around to building it. Will be using two 18" BT80 tubes from ERockets and full length couplers from BMS. 24 inches of stuffer tube, home made baffle and a 29mm mount all held in place with plywood rings. Fins TTW and cut from Basswood.

Really need to call Mark and get the decals on order. That should motivate me.

...I did the same....gathered the parts, but kept putting it off. When I went ahead and had Mark make me a set.....and you open to the gorgeous work of the original....you'll notice how quickly you start gluing and sanding

Agree - however, the issue with the MA3 fins is the attachment, we shredded some ( I believe at leas tone on a ProJet E20, another on an Aerotech F44 ), but if you epoxy fillet the stock fins, instad of relying on the flimsy tabs, they stoofd up to composites quite well, also modified motor mount versions on F100s.

I've had the Excelsior decals for ages, need to get the bird painted and get them on and flown
