Default Estes Maxi Icarus Graphic

I am trying to post something here for the first time so I hope it works. I (re)created the kit graphic for the Estes Maxi Icarus. The original scan is at the top of the page. It isn’t very, uhm, good. It kinda looks like parts of it may have been drawn with a Sharpie. I recreated it using the font (I believe) they started with. This is much cleaner and would look and read a lot better (IMHO). I mimicked the same typographic treatment—making the letters smaller as the go toward the center and then back up again. This is the second one from the top.

I then went on to do a third version using the same font but changing the treatment to be a bit less gimmicky. All the lower case letters are the same size. The “I” being the tallest letter where the wings are—I also stylized the wings a bit.

Finally, on the 4th version, I reversed the solid type with the outlined type. The reason for this is the kit name is Icarus—just a larger version. It is scaled-up from the original Icarus. “Maxi” just suggests that it is larger—just like if you put the word “Big” at the front and so should not stand out more than the name.

Any thoughts?

Looking good - thanks for sharing those - timing is excellent as I have just started on a 2.6 upscale version.

I usually comment from iPhone or iPad, so I went to my PC to download this decal file.

The Maxi Icarus file downloaded as a JPEG, at 300k. Good resolution. I pulled into Cricut Design Space and eliminated all but the 2nd image. I sized it up a bit, and cut it.

It came out great. Now I need to build the upscale to go with the decal.

Is that cut vinyl? Wow! Can you make one for me? Ha!

See below. I added one more version at the bottom.

It is cut vinyl.

PM me with your address, which decal you want, size. I have black, red, white, green, and some really bright colors my grand daughters wanted.

Thanks. I will send you a pm when I get a bit further into the build. I am doing something a little different. Instead of just building the Maxi Icarus, I am making a more correctly scaled-up Icarus. The body of the original Icarus was a 12.75” length of BT-50. That scales up to a body length of 21.38” (rounded down a bit) of BT-60. The Maxi kit used an 18” length of BT-60. I am extending that to 21.38”. Unfortunately, I cannot find a longer length of BT-60-sized clear tubing than 5”. I should be 2” longer than that. What are ya gonna do? I did get an upscale of the PNC-50Y from Semroc. So mine be more correctly proportioned to the original. I still have my Icarus model from the 1980s.

A shot of the model in dry fit. I made the fins TTW. You can see the added tube length. The payload section is a mock up using what I had on hand. More later as this is now assembled and in primer.
