Default Certificates of Compliance

A post on 'That other forum' led me to go to the Estes website to check something out.

With all the federal, state and local regulations concerning product safety and other issues, Estes maintains a listing of each product with a form that shows provides information on it's compliance with these regulations.

In addition, the form lists dates of production and where they come from.

Very interesting.

Most of the products are listed in 'blue' wording. 'Click' on it and the certificate appears.

Discontinued or recently introduced products are listed with 'gray' wording. One cannot open these listings.

The C5-3 motor and Low-Boom SST are listed with gray wording.
One is available and the other will be soon.

However, there are B4-6 and B8-5 motors listed in gray print.
Neither has been made in decades.
New production?

Check it out.
Enter 'Certificates of Compliance' into the SEARCH box and wait a while.
A product number listing will appear.
Select any of the 'blue' listings to see that items certificate.

Bob-

Good find! Very interesting indeed!!

I hope you are right. I never really understood why the B4-6 motor was ever discontinued. Great motor for B altitude flying. The B8 ain't a B14, but I suspect most all "B14s" from the mid-70s until they were discontinued were, actually, B8's.

Would really like to see the B4-6 and B8-5 return.
They should bring back the B8-0 and scrap the B6-0.

That is correct. Vern told me so himself when I won some "B14"s at a NARAM auction!

Ahh! Thanks for the verification. I kind of wondered over the years whether that might be the case after I got some ‘real’ B14s and knowing my 1976 Centuri B14s did not have that that same deep core. The release of the B8’s some years later kind of jelled that suspicion.

Funny you should mention NARAM motor auctions and Vern. My only in-person meeting with him took place at a NARAM auction, where I won some Estes blue tube B4-6 motors autographed by Vern. As I recall, the motors were donated to the auction by Bob Kaplow. It is the only NARAM I have ever attended, #30 in Huntsville, AL in ‘88.

Vern and I have exchanged a few letters over the years since then on a couple of historical things, and in the late 90s or early 2000s Vern purchased some of my rocket videos. I never, ever dreamed as a kid that one day Vern, Mr. Rocket himself, would ever purchase a ‘rocketry’ product of mine. Just goes to show you never really know what the future may hold.
