New Estes Parachute Prices
Okay, this is not the most earth shattering news in the world, but Estes lowered their parachute prices and announced the introduction of a 6" chute for release in September.

I wonder if they will be decorated or just the plain ones

I wonder if the 6" parachute means some interesting mini-kits.
Those ARE cheap prices. Plain plastic? Color pattern? |

I'm glad to see the 6" chute. I can only hope they are printed like the vintage 8" chutes of Estes past.

Interesting timing on this parachute announcement. I was digging thru a box of rocketry odds and ends over the weekend, and found some really old 60s era Estes chutes in orange/white, red/white, and orange/black.
I'd like to see some "retro" designs, but maybe asking too much. I cannot bring myself to use my old chutes, so back in the box they went. But made we wish for their return.

In another thread, I mentioned that I found illustrations on Amazon.com of Estes Parachutes that were the "classic", pre-Damon checkerboard pattern (actually even before the old black Estes "orbit" logo), but it had a recycle symbol on it, so it must be new. Here's the thread --> http://www.oldrocketforum.com/showthread.php?t=7236

They will be decorated, but I wasn't able to confirm the pattern so the parachute shown at the link Roy provided could very well be one the new pattern.

I wonder what would use a 6" parachute that CAN'T use a streamer?

It's mostly just a cool factor. Chutes just look more cool than streamers. However, a 6" chute can be stuffed in a minimum diameter bird easier than a long streamer. We use E2X Generic rockets at our school launch. A 12" chute is too big for our small playground due to wind drift. We always have rocket day in the spring and we almost always get variable gusty winds. We use the longest length of streamer we can get into a BT-50 without double stacking it. They come down pretty hard. A 6" chute would get the rocket down quicker with less drift than the 12", but not as fast as the streamer. That being said, I seriously doubt I will go out and buy 120 6" parachutes every year when I can use a couple bucks worth of crepe paper streamer.

What motor are you using and have you tried the 1/2A6-2?
