Oh, no problem. I was not specific in my original message as to when I had purchased it, but it was in fact just moments before I posted my message here, as I wanted to pass on the links to the copies still remaining from that eBay listing as fast as possible, in case someone here wanted to get one before they all got gone. Earl

There are some unique and rare Xacto items on ebay now.
There is an empty 88N flat-top box that could be filled. think it's around $39. Seeing as all the parts to fill the #88N are generally easy to find, that's not bad. The big flat top box is the unique part of that set. There also is a complete 88N flat-top Hobby Den for ~$229.00 Earlier today there was a pouched Xacto set similar to the one Centuri used to sell. It went for ~54. Sue had a vintage mint two-panel #88 set. This is the rare non-flat top set similar to the #89. It had the metal protractor. It was priced at $299.99 and didn't last but a few hours. I'm really interested in seeing any pre-war or during WWII Xacto literature/catalogues. I can't find ANYTHING regarding that other than the date they first started using the Xacto name was around 1930.

I got the that pouched Xacto set similar to the Centuri set. I thought it might go for more than it did. Yeah, it is not quite the same, but I just had to have it. Still looking for the Centuri set though. Earl

Earl-
It was gone before I got around to posting info about it here. Good Catch ! I was hoping it was close enough to what you wanted. I think they are the same minus the Centuri logo. You should ask Lee Piester about the Centuri ones. He may be able to point you in the right direction.

I was following it. Actually, the only true similarities between them are the No. 5 handle and saw blade (and the Centuri saw blade was actually the smaller 3/4” #34 saw blade; this Xacto set had the larger #35). This one had a couple of aluminum sanding angles, whereas the Centuri kit had the 2” sanding block. And the Centuri set had the #1 handle and some blades; the Xacto set did not, but it did have a file. The vinyl pouch though looks to be VERY similar, though the Xacto one looks to have a tie string on one side of the pouch, to roll it up and tie it in a roll. From the Centuri catalog photos, I have never been able to discern a tie string on it. But, so far, this Xacto set is the closest thing to the Centuri set I have ever seen, and my guess is Centuri had Xacto ‘make up’ the Centuri sets and had the Centuri logo printed on the vinyl pouches. Earl

The 1966 Xacto catalog arrived today in the mail from California. I will try to get it scanned by early next week and forward to Scott for posting here on the forum.

I just finished looking through the 66/67 Xacto catalog Earl scanned.
Interesting that the largest set available was the #89, in the latest two-panel form. The #99 did not yet exist. That tool display workbench didn't exist either.
