I have only been a member on and off, are back issues of the magazine available in the section listed below? Is there an extra charge for them? I can buy a few rockets and a batch of engines for$70, can anyone explain to me why adults are charged 233% more ?

Insurance.

Several years ago, the NAR Board decided to reduce the cost of the Youth membership to encourage more young people to join/renew.

The Adult members of the NAR somewhat subsidize the costs of Junior memberships.

I think it has worked out well if you look at the NAR membership numbers.

Which USED to be voluntary-- you checked a box and added the cost to your membership cost and enclosed a check for the total. I fly from my own farms (and provide them to clubs for launch sites) and so don't need the insurance. In truth the insurance isn't very good anyway, it's more for appearances than practicality, given that it's the "payer of last resort" after every other form or type of insurance has been exhausted, and of course there's SO many "outs" or quid pro quos that allow them to get off the hook of paying if every T isn't crossed and I dotted, that IMHO it's pretty much worthless anyway.

$70 bucks now? It was $62 last time I was a member and that was simply too much which is why I dropped it. That's about 2/3 of my yearly rocketry budget anyway, so no way was I going to pay that much for so little. I'm not interested in competition or anything like that, so basically the only value to me was the magazine, and no way it's worth $70 bucks a year.

Oh well, to each his own.
