I cut my teeth on an OM-1. I still have it.

I had a couple problems with my Corvette kit. Firstly, the nosecone is made from a material that does not melt when you put the recommended plastic cement on it; I had to rough up the inner surface of the cone and use epoxy to assemble the nosecone + lower piece.
Secondly, I ran across a set of lousy decals. Several of them broke while trying to put them on. I'm not exactly a decal noob. I mentioned both of these issues to Estes, and got the usual "we'll tell marketing". Nonetheless, I still think its a good kit, though I haven't been able to fly mine yet. |

Bill, I had no issues with the plastic nose cone, other than it is too loose. The Estes decals over the last several years are pretty bad. I have discovered you have to let them soak to the point where the decal is falling off the backing paper. If you try to apply the decal in the normal fashion it will either break or stretch. I also brush a lot of water where I want the decal to go so I can adjust as needs, then squeeze out the water.

I don’t trust ANY decals anymore. I use liquid decal film on all decal sets now.

I should say that I liked the new nosecone on the Corvette for one reason: it has no mold lines on the sides of the nosecone that need to be cleaned up; just a little bit at the tip (I assume they inject whatever plastic they are using there). Easy peazy.

Anyone do up a Rocksim file for the Corvette yet? I'm looking at using some Quest C12s, and not sure which delay to choose.

Well, based on the weight of David's model and the Estes recommendations of either C6-3 or C6-5 I'd probably start with the C12-4 unless the day is really calm, then maybe use C12-6.

Okay, thank you. I think I'll go with the C12-4 then and see how it goes. |
