Incase anybody was worried about Mr. Twisty- he's OK.
Some minor paint damage but he glued back well and lines up. Tomorrow is forecasted to be 0mph wind at 7 am so I'll try to get a D12-3 launch. |

How hot does it come in? Slow enough to fly at a public launch?

My first video with the C11-3 launch back on page 1 has a pretty clear shot of the landing. I wouldn't want to stand under it but the landing was pretty mild. The other video with the engine failure was pretty violent- but then if it had been a High Flier XL or other large rocket with an engine failure it would have been just as bad I guess. I've never been to a large public event so I'm not sure how they're setup for safety or contingency plans for chute failures and such. I was actually toying with a 3 fin design last night- it might be a better option for these larger models to increase launch stability and recovery drag to slow it down a little more on landing. Of course that would no longer be an "upscaled Tazz" but I think veering off the line to make a more enjoyable model would be a fair trade. |
