Default Launch Rod Clamp

So, I made a thing: https://www.printables.com/model/30...aunch-rod-clamp

Actually, I made four of them. This is the "photogenic" final version.

What filament did you use (PLA, PETG, ABS) and how well has it held up? Wondering if the exhaust weakens/melts the plastic, or is it far enough away from the motor?

PLA, but I can't tell you how well it works because I have not had an operational test. You can tell by how clean it is.

It's my hope that the off-sides positioning coupled with the briefness of the exposure will allow these to be used over and over, but honestly I don't know. I do know that metal clips I've used with various soft thermoplastic tips have survived multiple launches with superficial scarring only.

Of course, the nice thing about this design (now that I have it) is that I can build a version of it fairly easily out of all-metal parts, even with my limited workshop.

Hey, that looks a lot better than a pair of small Vise Grips.

Actually never used vice grips for this. They could scratch the rocket if used to support it at the launch lug, and I don't think my design is likely to do that (no promises though).

Tension adjustment with a screw clamp should be easier to regulate too.

I was in the hardware store today and learned that they make door hinges without holes for screws, so you can customize them. I can easily see making something like this with a small amount of wood added to make the jaws grippy, and a wingnut and carriage bolt to secure it. But the hardware for that would cost around $5.00 or more at my local prices. Since I have the 3D printer already, the value is only there if the plastic part turns out to be unsuitable. I'm not even sure what I paid for the metal parts (screw and nut) since they are leftovers from other projects long forgotten.
