Default Estes PF-40A?

Sorting through an old range box today, I cam across this plastic fin can and was wondering if it could be an Estes PF-40A. I'm basing that assumption on the picture from the 1964 Estes catalog, and the fact that the range box contained mostly mid-late 1960s Estes and Centuri parts/paperwork. The fin can does not seem to fit any body tube sizes I have in the stash, but according to the catalog it would fit BT-40, which I don't have any samples of.

Looks like it. You could clone a Dirty Bird III :

BT-40 tubes are here:

BNC-40 nose cones are here, including the BNC-40G:

Or order a different BT-40 tube and nose cone and scratch your own design.

Looks like mine, except the version in my collection is all white.

Thanks for the info and the plan link. The red stripe is a paint job by the previous owner. Probably the same bottle of testors red that was in the box.

I am hoping to take measurements and see if I can make a 3d printable version. My current skill level is at centering rings, so it may take a while.

The plastic fin can is a fireworks item. I have several from skyrockets purchased from local fireworks stores.

I wonder if there is any melting from the motor firing between the fins?

There was some melting/charring in the fireworks version when I'd clean up the yard after the 4th of July. I never had an Estes kit, though.

I have always wanted one of these, either an original or modern version. I have BT40 and a fireworks conical nosecone that should fit. Anyone have one I could buy?

Cool find! Sounds like a great opportunity to hone your skills.

Any fireworks store should have that fin unit.
Probably will cost you about $5 for the skyrocket.
