Default 60 Years of the NAR Mag

I turned 60 this past August and a couple months ago came upon a 'comparison' in my literature collection of what that same time frame has shown as reflected in the covers of the NAR membership publication as it existed in August 1962 and August 2022 (scans attached below).

The former is one single piece of paper printed front and back with one grayscale photo on the 'front' page. The latter is 48 pages, full color, with many, many photos throughout of models (and motors!) that model rocketry enthusiasts of 60 years ago could not have dreamed of. And the Saturn V on the cover, as a real rocket, did not really exist in 1962, at least as not represented by that model.

Quite and advancement, at least in the publication. Of course, the NAR mag has evolved rather slowly at times over the years. I recall when I first joined in the latter 70s, the then monthly Model Rocketeer could be a bit thin and had no color photos at all. Over the more recent decades it has evolved quite a bit.

Thankfully, after 60 years, I am still 'full color' (for the most part) and hope to stay that way for some more additional years I hope!

Earl

Here's page two of the August, 1962 Model Rocketeer for those who might be interested in seeing 'all' two pages of that issue!

The guys in the 1962 pic were much cooler than we are today.

I believe that the "Model Rocketry" magazine of the late 60's/early 70's was the benchmark of model rocketry publications. I've collected as many as I can. Just my opinion.
