Happy Birthday, Vern.

Back about 15 years ago, in an email conversation, Vern loaned me his complete collection of Model Rocketeer magazine. I laboriously scanned each page and then sent them back to him. Just an example of his generosity to the rocketry community that he helped build. WorldWide.

does anybody know how he's actually doing these days? healthwise?

He logs on to YORF a number of times a month. He was on earlier today as a matter of fact.

The first time I met Vern was at NARAM 43.

I was walking to the flight desk,at that time it was manned by none other tha Carl Mclawthorn, when I saw this older gentleman walking towards me.
I was carrying a scratch built K-50 Intercepter.

Vern had his hands out reaching for the Intercepter. I had no idea who this guy was!

As I got closer I finally recognized him.

I almost dropped down to one knee as if to present him my sword.

Darth Vader voice , “What is my bidding my master?”

Happy Birthday Vern!

Happy Birthday Vern!

I first met Vern during a tour of Estes Industries in 1966.

My wife and I have had the good fortune to meet Vern and Gleda at several rocketry events in the past. My goals and career were clearly influenced by model rocketry. Hard to imagine what might have been without such a great hobby. Thank you Vern!
