Thanks J.W. ! Here she is … and it’s absolutely miserable weather-wise here, so no primer coats expected for awhile!

Looking good.
Makes me want to open up my Super Scorpius kit.

No, I used the kit-supplied balsa. I’ll use basswood on an upscale.

Looking good, what did you seal the fins with?

scigs30,
As you may recall, or maybe not, … you turned me on to Brodak Sanding Sealer I ran out of thinner, so I have been using good old (and relatively cheap) lacquer thinner.

Hi Lee!:
That is one SLEEK Scorpius! Might try to have to make one of those myself. I have some SIG sanding sealer I want to try on balsa. Sincerely, J.W. |

Lee,
I do remember and glad to see you still have some left. Unfortunately Brodak is no longer selling their sealer so I have been experimenting with making my own. |

I still have some Deft Lacquer Sanding Sealer. I had bought a quart for woodworking. It works pretty well. It typically takes an extra coat or two. Sometimes I just get lazy and use Rustoleum filler/primer to do final grain filling. I still eliminate tube spirals and I am too lazy to use any type of paste filler, so I just use the filler/primer for that as well. UPDATE: I just looked up the Deft on Amazon. It’s pricey — $28.99 / qt. When I bought mine it was ~ $13. But a gallon is just $64.99, maybe find a fellow builder (or two or three) and split it up! When compared to what we used to pay for 4 oz. jars of sanding sealer, makes it seem reasonable.

You can try adding Talc powder to the Deft wood sealer, work really well that is was I am experimenting with right now. I will post my results once complete.
