Default CANAROC Orion fin pattern?

Hello All,

Does anyone here have a fin pattern and know the body tube length & launch lug length for the CANAROC Orion (see: http://www.ninfinger.org/rockets/ca...c80/80can6.html )? Their nose cone for this tubing (0.752" in diameter, not too different from BT-20) was 2.75" long (the same as the Estes/Semroc BNC-20N and Estes PNC-20A nose cones), so cloning this model would be very easy.

Many thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

Neither of those (Orion IV or Orbitron) are it. The Orion (shown in the 1980 CANAROC catalog here, see: http://www.ninfinger.org/rockets/ca...c80/80can6.html ) had three swept fins, a 0.752" diameter body tube, and a 2.75" long ogive nose cone similar to the Estes BNC-20N and PNC-20A. I don't think it was in production very long before CANAROC became--or was bought by--their successor (I think it was called SMI).

SMI was an attempt at the 'rebirth' of Canaroc in the early 1990s when rocketry was the 'hot' property with hobby distributors.

SMI never went into production but motors were submitted and certified by NAR S&T. I did get a starter set from Taras T. but that was it.

Why yes, yes I do.

Launch Lug: 51 mm (2") long

Airframe: 21.1 mm long (~8-3/8" long)

Fin Stock: 3 mm thick (not 9/32" or 1/8" thick, but 3 mm. Your choice to round)

Pattern sheet below.

Decals, too?! "Mister Sandman..." :-) John, I thank you very much for taking the time to dig these out, scan them, and post them here! The Orion's body looks just like the booster section of the CANAROC Green Hornet payload model (see: http://www.ninfinger.org/rockets/ca...78/78can10.html ). As Estes and Quest have sometimes done, CANAROC may have created the Orion as a SPEV (Spare Parts Elimination Vehicle), which doesn't diminish my interest in it. I've e-mailed Scott a link to this thread so that the Orion can be added to "Ye Olde Rocket Plans" to be accessible to everyone, and I included acknowledgement to you for providing this kit data.

Thank you very much for filling in this gap in my knowledge, Bob, as disappointing as it is. I learned about CANAROC not long after they went out of business, and I would love to have bought several of their kits from SMI (now I know why I've never seen any SMI kits on eBay).
