Default Lifting bodies and Openrocket

I'm toying with the idea of designing a lifting body rocket, not a glider.

Is it possible to work one up in Openrocket? I'm not sure how to make a non tubular body.

K’Tesh may know how to do that in Openrocket.
If I were to attempt it I would try to create or modify an existing hollow nose cone using paper for the material and see if I could add centering rings and a motor mount to that. You will need at least a minuscule length body tube to mount the centering rings to. I doubt it would sim correctly but you could possibly get it to appear correctly in the program.

Thanks

I meant I wouldn't know how to draw it in Openrocket.

I thought about this later but the RockSim file from the old Semroc site for the amazing POINT might be a good starting point for your design. Perhaps you could modify this this file in OpenRocket for your needs ...

There is also a RockSim file for the ShadowAero Sprint ABM posted here on RocketReviews.com

Generally, non-tubular bodies are not possible to do in any sort of way that will simulate correctly.

For something like a lifting body, it's unlikely that you'll even be able to get it to *look* right in OR. Depending on the exact shape required, it might be possible to get close using a variety of hacks.

But this is something that OR is really not designed for, and it will fight you. Not recommended.

Thanks for that.

Mabey maybe start with a rough mockup and build a wind tunnel. Always wanted to try it.

Just found someone has already done it.

Really nice job!
