Default new "classic" Estes parachutes?

I was browsing Amazon the other day, looking for something to pad my order up to the $25 free shipping level, when I went to their model rocket listings (i ended up getting a Quest MLAS), and found the following image on a listing for Estes parachutes:

hmm. Maybe Estes is throwing us another bone (though single color on white rather than two-color)!

Well, it must be new.

There's a recycling symbol at the bottom.

Way cool!

Ouch. Eight bucks for one 12 inch 'chute.....or the blue/white 18-incher.

As my then-10 year old older brother said to the cashier at a local store when he asked to buy perfume for our mother for Mother's Day (and was told that perfume was also called "toilet water"): "I believe I can get some of that at home for free!" Ditto for the 'chutes.

Estes is the only Co. I know that's bringing all of their manufacturing jobs back here to the good 'ol U.S. of A.!
Things made here are more expensive to make because they're not made by children or adults driven to suicide.
Rather than be commended for their patriotic attitude and shown a little support (yes, by spending a little more for better quality merchandise), all I ever hear is bitching and moaning about how much the new stuff costs!

Sheesh. Estes parts prices have been outrageous for years, regardless of their country of origin. Their current retail price for the red one-color made-in-China pre-made 12 inch 'chute is $8.29!

Nothing on the Amazon listing says these new Estes parachutes are US made. Current Estes kits, including the classics, clearly say "made in Guangdong, China" on the package (or at least the Long Tom I bought recently does).

I think I am willing to assemble a $1.25 Semroc two-color chute pack for the difference in price and can live without the retro Estes logo in the center. That does not make me "stupid and cheap".

As far as I know, everything Semroc sells is US in origin (except, of course, the balsa from which his balsa parts are made, since balsa trees don't grow in the US).

Yes, as far as I know, they are indeed a patriotic company!
At least we agree here.

If your current self had visited your 10 year-old self in, say, 1969 (just for the sake of argument, as I don't know how old you are) and said, "In 2010 you'll be buying Estes parachutes for over $8.00 apiece," your 10 year-old self would have said, "You're crazy! I can make 100 of my own for that much!"
