Default Zebra II Launch Lug Standoff

I have started a build on the Centuri Zebra II Downloaded the plans, purchased all the parts from Semroc including the laser cut fins but do not have the size of the launch lug standoff.
Thanks in advance

John

It uses BT-20 and BT-50 tubes, so the standoff should be the same height as the old Estes X-Ray. Mine is 5/32" so 3/16" will be plenty clearance. The LL-2B launch lug is 2.375" long, so make your angle cut so the standoff fits the lug.

The Centuri Zebra II is not remembered by many, but it is a nice design. I built a clone of it three years ago. For the standoff height, I just took the diameter of the payload section (0.976") and subtracted the diameter of the body tube (0.736") and then divided that number by 2. To insure clearance, I added another 1/32" to that, and I ended up with the same numbers that tbzep gave. For the length I marked off a length equal to that of the launch lug along one side of the piece, and then drew 45° angles away from each end of it toward the other side. It worked out to be 2.875" for the long side.

Sorry about the standoff, John. It should have been on the fin sheet, but was left off. It is on there now.

Thanks for catching that!

Carl
No problem I'm glad in a round about way we could help you out. After I posted I went back into my built pile and took a look at the Semroc X-Ray kit and slapped the Zebra II payload section on the X-Ray a perfect match. I have an extra stanoff so problem solved. Decal will be coming from Fred.
We will see how it goes will post a photo of both side by side unfinished.

Thanks guys
John

Gordie, you have decals for the Zebra II now? Wonderful! I had requested these from Phred three years ago, but he said that he didn't think he would be able to get around to drawing them. Expect an order very soon!

YESSS! Woo-hoo! [virtual fist-bump]

always liked this one - one of the seldom seen late Centuri designs.

photo attached of my own clone - one of the first decal sets I redrew myself ( back when I had good software,e tc ) .

Think this one flew at NARAM 50, or at least had it there, lol ...

enjoy, and keep the inspiration coming, hope my few finished pics help others along as much as others' do motivate me
