E2X Series SkyWinder, EST#: 2077
Hello everyone!
I am a new user, first time here, first post. I built an old-school Estes rocket, an E2X Series SkyWinder, EST#: 2077. After carefully assembling and painting this rocket, it was destroyed upon its maiden flight. I used an old Estes C6-5 engine, and in the video, I can see the engine failed at launch, and melted most of the plastic that controlled the rotors. I was sooo disappointed! Just in preparation of flight, a very light breeze was spinning the rotors, and I couldn't believe how fast they turned with practically no wind! Anyhoo, long story short, I would sell my first born to get another rocket like this one or fix it somehow. Any searches of the internet only finds one listing on Ebay, he only has the nose cone from the original kit, and I think he's asking like $50 or something ridiculous... Any help would be GRATELY APPRECIATED!!! Shaggy Dave. Last edited by Shaggy Dave : 08-21-2022 at 02:19 PM. Reason: adding pics |

Check with Launch Lab Rocketry. Steve Nevard always has a variety of old classics. He may not have a SkyWinder, but let him know of your interest. He is a really good guy to work with. Finally, please provide more information on your first born child.

If you get another, the 5 second delay is too long.

DeaR LeeR, Thank you for the information! I have no idea what a "Launch Lab Rocketry" is, but I'll figure it out... And thank you for a good belly laugh on the first born... You all seem like an awesome bunch, I think I'm gonna learn a lot here! Shaggeh |

Dear (Index Card) Aka: 5 by 7, You're right! This was the maiden flight, and I just wanted to see the sucker fly! However, if and when I get it up and running again, would you suggest a C6-3 or just a C6-0? Shaggeh |

C6-0 has NO ejection, so it will crash. Engines ending in "-0" (dash-zero) are booster engines meant for staging. They do blow some hot gases upwards for staging, but not enough to activate a recovery system unless it's designed especially to work with a booster. You really need to learn about time delays and suitable engines. I'd only ever use a C6-3 in that. Or maybe a B6-2 if it was really windy on a small field. Basic rule to start is only use engines that the kit maker recommends.

For motors, B6-2(it will just about manage to spin up before it lands) C6-3 or C5-3 are recommended. Estes modified the model after initial release to prevent the motor mount from melting and the nosecone seperating. If you get one, post the parts here and if it is an early one we can let you know how to make those mods.

Thank you for editing the original inflammatory post.
Shaggeh. Attached is the original launch, just in case it didn't add to the original post. Last edited by Shaggy Dave : 08-21-2022 at 10:53 AM. Reason: problem addressed, thank you |
