Lacquer over enamel
Is it safe to spray Tamiya lacquer paint over Testors enamel paint? I will test first when I get the paint but curious while I wait for it to come in the mail if I’ll have any problems.

That’s what I remember. The description on the Tamiya website almost makes it sound like it may be safe over enamel. Hopefully it tests ok. I’ve been hunting for the correct olive green for my Honest John and V2. It’s all been online searching trial and error with all the hobby stores closed right now. The Tamiya looked perfect so I ordered it without catching it was lacquer. Oh well, the search may continue.

Don't EVER put Lacquer or Dope over Enamel.
It WILL craze the Enamel and make a swirled up mess. That goes for cruddy Enamel-based primers too. You can topcoat Lacquer/Dope with more Lacquer/Dope, Enamel, or Urethane. Enamel should ONLY be topcoated with Enamel.

While I mostly agree, Testor's Glosscote and Dullcote are both labeled as "Lacquer," and they were literally made for coating enamel-painted models. Never had an issue there.
So, my rule of thumb is find something you don't care about and give it a test. I've had the horrible result, where the paint underneath is turned into the skin of a raisin. And I've gotten lucky too. Another thing to think about is cure time. We often go to the next coat of paint as soon as the previous coat is dry to the touch. Take your time (like at least 2 full days, more is better) before applying that next coat. When that base coat is truly cured, the TYPE on the next coat may not matter quite as much. But, in general (with the exception of glosscote/dullcoat), I try to stick with one type of paint for a single model. |

Testors Glosscote and Dullcote are unique "Lacquers" that use an Ethyl Acetate and Butyl Acetate solvent package that does not dissolve cured enamels.
A bad thing about those Clear Lacquers is the fact that they yellow over time. Krylon clear stays clear and is much better for topcoating decals.

I use Krylon Ultra Flat Camo Olive for my olive drab military builds - and you can clear coat with Krylon flat to get decals to look right. https://www.grainger.com/product/54TJ50?cm_mmc=PPC:+MSN+PLA&s_kwcid=AL!2966!10!8973609562!4583314221163443&ef_id=XqiKfQAABZAVDPmX:20200428195645:s |

Ok, is Dupli-color compatible with Krylon Color Master? I was using Krylon's sandable primer and now I can't find my can or any in the stores in my area. TIA.
