I saw that too. I believe it was the latter. I've seen it a number of times where a really desirable rare rocketry item suddenly is no longer available due to an auction being ended early. I'm unsure whose doing it, but one or more of the rocketry collectors out there are making deals outside eBay with sellers despite the rule stating a seller is not supposed to do that. Oh well.

For whatever it’s worth....I sent him a message via eBay basically saying “what happened as I was going to do my serious bidding closer to the end of the auction” and he said he thought no one was interested and he kept getting emails offering $75, so he ended the auction early. I don’t quite know what to make of that, but that’s what I was told. So, it looks like mojo1986’s first idea is what the seller actually told me. *sigh*

Of course the “reserve” price is supposed to cover the “the price I wanted” aspect I suppose. I’m a very occasional seller and not really that active a buyer there, so I don’t know the intracies of all that....

Added later: I’ve had another exchange with the seller. He says he did not sell it and that he would repost it if he gets more queries like mine. He turned down my lowball offer (relative to what the last one sold for)....which didn’t surprise me.

I was a bit surprised when I got the email that my bid was canceled.
I was also planning on a late high bid.

Anyone who has sold items of that rarity knows that not much happens until the end. Why would put money on the table and show their hand? I am sure he thought better of it or got cold feet.

I wouldn't spend over $75 on that thing, rare or not.
Rarity does NOT directly translate into VALUE.
A mint condition factory new AMC Pacer is STILL a WORTHLESS POS.

As were pretty much all of the cars of that post oil embargo, smog control era we call the late 70's (and the 80's), but the Pacer was "worthlesser". lol

But we all know you were a lover of the Stinger.

I don’t remember that model. It looks like a vehicle out of a cheap ripoff of one of the Jurassic Park movies.

But ... it would be a good runabout for an old GMC Motorhome.

While the Pacer suffered from the double quality whammy of being born at the lowest point of Detroit quality - the mid 70's - and being born of the lowest quality North American car maker - AMC - its biggest problem was being ahead of its time.

You need only fast forward 10 years, and you'll see that a Taurus wagon looked very much like a stretched Pacer. By then, its bulbous, aerodynamic styling with lots of glass were in vogue.

This thing came out in the 70's, but I only recently learned of its underpinnings - its drive train came out of the Cadillac El Dorado - it had a big block engine with front wheel drive.

While that should provide more than ample power, I can't help wonder about possible traction issues, especially if someone is towing a boat, which is common in the camping crowd. Furthermore, you gotta wonder about the durability of half shaft axles versus a traditional, solid rear axle housing.

That said, GM seemed to have a production decent run making these.

I think it was a show car instead of an available package. It would match well with the GMC. lol

BTW, only France could get away with this advertisement.
