I love that Skyhook, LeeR!

1/4" masking tape is certainly hard to find. Try specialty paint stores.

It's nearing the end of its life, but I bought from American Science & Surplus a huge bag of 1/4" and 1/2" masking tape. It came in lots of nice colors, especially the 1/2" rolls.

I think Sherwin-Williams carries 1/4" masking tape.
Don't expect to pay 98 cents a roll though.

So are you thinking about making motors to sell again . With the US rockets that i have i use z clip or the estes retainer and tape .

stefanj and ghrocketman,

Thanks for the compliments on my Super Sky Hook. I remember admiring the Sky Hook when I got my first Estes catalog, a 1964. I built Scouts and Streaks and WAC Corporals, a Drifter, an Aerbee 300 early on, but somehow never built a Sky Hook.

I’ve kind of been focused on nostalgia builds lately. I’ve built a Spaceman (from Semroc), a Super Astron Cobra (built a Ranger as a kid, never did build a Cobra). I built a 24mm booster for a Farside-X, and just recently bought a Semroc Farside-X kit rather than scratch building one to go with the new booster.

When I bought the Estes Panavia, I knew it had to get bashed into something else. After building a Semroc Sky Hook II (moderately upscale Sky Hook), I knew I needed a Super Sky Hook.

I also am completing a huge Super X-Ray a friend started in the 90s, and gave to me last year.

Oh yeah, I’m working on a BMS Mars Snooper as well. I’ve got a very bad case of nostalgia!

1/4" tape?

Since ceasing selling to the NAR/TRA market, which will continue going forward, I have made thousands of SU and RL motors 24mm, 29mm, 38mm and some larger but not very many.

The Semroc SLS-Arcas should fly nicely on the F15, at least that's what I plan to fly it on when I get around to building it.

The new Estes Pro Series II Doorknob has the F15-6 listed as a recommended motor.

The Estes Mean Machine, modified for 29mm, flies great on the F15 - I flew it a few times before losing the top half.

I have a stash of 1/4" masking tape from a now-closed LHS for thrust rings, works great. I extend the motor tube enough for an outer wrap to hold the motor in place.

I used the HPR instructions for building the Semroc SLS Arcas.
Epoxy heavy-duty construction throughout.
It has flown on as little as an E30-4, but I would never try it on a F15.
The E30 was barely enough.
If you use LPR construction throughout, it may be fine but then you would not be able to use anything decent in it like a G80, G138, or H128.
With LPR construction, I would think about a G40 would be max.

Bump the question and add a news link. So far I have gleaned the specified thrust ring is 1/4" and commercial tape is not readily available so I should include something with the motors. Right? The tentative nozzle extension is 5/8" OD and variable length depending on throat but around 1/2". The tentative delay extension is also 5/8" but I feel it could be comfortably reduced to 1/2" if helpful. These are questions that will lead to a product that is on the market for the next 10-20 years. so these are not stupid questions. YORF hive mind is shockingly valuable. Geeks!!
