Default New Astrocam First Launch - with a Chaser

I picked up an Astrocam and put it together last week and clear coated the sticker yesterday, and connected it all together. I swapped the chute for a 15" thin mill top flight to ensure (ha) deployment.

I met a friend of mine today, we have been flying movie and still cameras for years, Camroc, Bently Super 8 Film Movie Cameras, modified disc camera, Astrocams, Oracle, and 808 keychain cams, so this new AC was a must have. I thought it would make it more interesting to have a chase rocket so we set up an additional controller (that came with the AC), to chase the AC with, and set up two rods on my modified pad. Videos with chase rochets are hit and miss, the bad news is this Astrocam spins a little. The good news is the spin guarantees some of the chase rocket will be in some frames.

Flight 1 was the AC with a Qjet B4-4, chased by a Flip Flyer on a C6-5. Qjet B4-4s eject within a second after apogee, perfect for this rocket.

The second flight we launched an Art Applewhite Whirlwind Monocopter on an AT E6 first, then the Astrocam on another Qjet B4-4, right after the Monocopter. The Monocopter can be seen processing across the field on its 8 second burn.

On the last flight, I put the AC camera nose on a modified mongoose. I had replaced the tube with a heavier duty tube to help it survive my Daughter's science project a few years back. The Mongoose was loaded with a 1974 Estes B14-0 in the first stage and an Estes B6-6 in the upper stage. We tried to chase this one but I think the B14 blew the igniter loose so it dropped down in the adjacent B4-qjet and didn't light the chase rocket. Still a fun flight on the vintage 46 year old B14. The B14 to B6-6 was a perfect combo, another ejection within a second after apogee. The chute didn't open but was acting as a good streamer and it landed on soft grass, no damage.

Who else skipped straight to flight three before viewing one and two?

BTW... Folks don't forget you can view the footage in slow motion by changing the settings in the bottom right hand corner. Watch it full speed (which looks like warp speed with the B14) and then watch it at the slowest so you have time to see the first stage! Burn time in the catalog says .35 seconds. I'd love to see data from a recording altimeter on that one!

That video was well worth the sacrifice of a B14-0. Thanks!

Guilty!

I will post a C5-3 flight probably later today. The FS Mini data say that one peaked at 22Gs.

I did the same as well.
Skipped to flight 3 first to see the B14 boost.

Bernard I watched that video a few times and you could see the B14–0 booster falling away in a couple of frames when I paused the YouTube video. Very cool flight
I hope you don’t mind that I posted those two still shots in your thread but I’m still very impressed with this flight video!

Ah, now that was a great suggestion, because at 0.25 speed not only is the video slowed but the audio as well; with spectacular results on flight 2 in particular.
