No, this is a pre-made display model. I think these are actually sold at KARI (Korea Aerospace Research Institute). I had to get a set which included the TLV (Test Launch Vehicle - a suborbital rocket that tested the Nuri first-stage engines). I do have the Finescale kit. Super-nice model. I hope they eventually model the Nuri as well. |

The Naro-1, three examples of which were flown (the third succeeded), used a slightly modified Russian Angara common booster core, topped by a South Korean-developed solid propellant second stage with a movable nozzle. Conceptually, the Naro-1 was rather similar to the Thor-Burner II, which used a large kerolox-burning first stage (a surplus Thor IRBM) topped by a Surveyor lunar lander solid propellant retro-motor, which served as its second stage (it used thrusters for steering during its burn). As well: There was an earlier design for the Naro-1 (which looked like a miniature Titan IIIC), using all South Korean-made hardware, that KARI (their space agency) abandoned in favor of of the partly Russian Naro-1 (see: http://www.astronautix.com/n/naro-1.html ) that ultimately flew.
