Default Canaroc Cloning

Trying not to buy anymore kits (since I'm selling the ones I have off). So, I'm repairing and finishing the rockets I do have. Here begins my sojourn......

This is a picture of my cloned Super Tornado and Eager Beaver.

The Eager Beaver is actually a repair. The original was destroyed (how, I can't remember). The only thing that remained was the nose cone that Gordon (Sandman) had made for me. So I'm rebuilding it better and stronger (just not for 6 million dollars). No, not really. Using the stock plans with reproduction decals from Tango Papa.

I've deviated from the plans somewhat for the Super Tornado. Fearing stability issues, I've installed a stuffer tube to keep the parachute in the upper 6" of the body tube. The rest of the build is per plans including a nicely turned reproduction nose cone from Gordon. The decal is basically black and white so I'm printing that out on decal paper

In the que......

I've got the parts for the T-22 Eliminator. And Gordon has already made the reproduction nose cone for it. I don't have the decals but I have worked up the size and font for the lettering. Still need the roll pattern. Since they are white decals, obviously I can't print them myself. If it comes to it, I'll just have to place a custom order for vinyl from StickerShock.

I've got a build Antares that needs to be repaired. I'm hoping the coupling stock I just got from BMS will work. Tube bent/broken. It is a REALLY nice rocket that I'd hate to rebuild from scratch.

Need to repair my Warlock

Once all the repairs are done, it will be back to the Green Hornet

Default Canaroc Eager Beaver nose cone

Hi Don,

Nice job! Btw, I found my original Canaroc Eager Beaver nose cone. I don't have a postal scale right now to weigh it, but I can bring it to the MSRS launch tomorrow at Shelby Farms in Memphis, TN. If someone has a scale, we can weigh it there. Do you have a scale you can bring with you tomorrow?

Kind regards,
Jeff Jenkins

Thanks Jeff. Sounds great. I'll bring my postal scale.

For those wondering, several years back there was a stability issue with Canaroc clones. So, Jeff has an actual Canaroc nose cone. We're going to weigh it and compare to the custom cones. If it weighs more, we'll just add some weight to the custom cones.

I think years ago, someone did a Rocksim and calculated how much weight had to be added. Might have to go to an old thread to see if I can find that info.....

Ok....went through an old thread and found where Fred Talasco had done a rocksim file and Gordon said it looks like (based upon the RockSim file) you need to add half an ounce to be stable for the Eager Beaver.

Don,

I love the Canaroc kits, especially the Eager Beaver. Mine is a Sandman clone.

Weight of the nosecone, with noseweight added per Gordy's instructions, and painted, is 118 g.

Nice touch on the launch lug Steve!

Jeff brought his to the launch today. It weighed in at 1.2 ounces, which is less than the balsa cones from Gordon. I'm gonna add the .5 oz as suggested.

If you didn't know this was a Canaroc Eager Beaver in primer, would you think it's Der Red Max....at first glance.....?

I look forward to seeing the Warlock repair. IIRC, this was a difficult bird to fly?

Yep...the Warlock was a difficult bird. The motor mount is up front and the glider is REALLY heavy. I'm getting rather grey on top and it is difficult for me to remember details but I'm not sure how my Warlock got damaged. I haven't started it's repair yet.

But, I have completed the T-22 Eliminator build. Swing test shows it stable with a D12 so the only nose weight added was the epoxy to hold the plug in. Still needs to the clear coat. Hoping to fly it at the next club launch.

My Super Tornado is in it's base coat of gloss sun yellow paint. I want to put another coat on before I add the black paint and add decals. I'll probably use the metal flake black like I did on the T-22. I used a printer to make the decals but StickerShock did such a GREAT job on my T-22 vinyl decals, I wish I had got some vinyl for the Super Tornado.

Probably should spend some more time on the Canaroc builds but the humidity here makes painting difficult. That along with working on my Level 1 cert bird and repairing an NCR Bomarc. Sometimes there just doesn't seem to be enough time for the important stuff.......
