Stefanj-
Nice win of that AVI design contest. One would have to get a BUTT LOAD of MPC kits for them to be worth ANYTHING.

Actually those details I forgot quite quickly. The things I do remember were originally we were going to do the theme to Gone With The Wind, because one of us had sheet music, but they turned out to be jazz charts for Dave Brubeck’s tune of the same name, which is *quite* different!! Our band director was a jazz saxophonist and instead steered us to Brahms’ Hungarian Dance no 5, which had a range and complexity he thought we could stretch into, if slowed down a little. (So it took a few clues, but I just remembered that.) The detail about the school I remember is it had a sunken courtyard that led to a couple of band rooms and a small auditorium.

Below is another batch of early MPC product literature.
These include a flyer on the MPC launcher and the upcoming 'plastic' flying model rockets, which, at that time it is interesting to note apparently included a Saturn 1b that was never released. And, a flyer just on the Titan III plastic kit. Finally, there is a four page "MPC Is Happening Now" flyer (love these late 60s-very early 70s phrases) which covers the two types of kits MPC would be releasing: the "Astroline" series featuring many new (for the industry) plastic parts. The more traditional "Mach 10" series would feature balsa fins, nose cones, etc. Earl

Awesome to see my Lunar Lectric/Pioneer 1 starter set in all it’s glory. More incentive to use the info that Bill Cook kindly sent me awhile back and do an approximation of my long lost Pioneer 1. Thanks for posting all the great MPC stuff Earl!

Another nice set of documents!
I had two of the MPC pads (in fact, I still have one down stairs, and another on loan to the Sunriver Science Centre), but never managed to get my hands on a controller. The Redstone Maveric was the first MPC kit I purchased. I remember feverishly bulding it as a 9 year on old our patio, wondering if it was somehow based on a real rocket and being terrified by instructions to mount the fins at 120 degree angles. Of course, the mounting lugs on those plastic rings made it easy to align them properly. I bought many of the others at one time or another, including the Titan III and Vostok. Never came close to flying them. They seemed so brittle and clunky! * * * Something I've noticed, that few others have picked up on. Some of the MPC kit instructions list what seem to be FSI motor designations for recommended motors. D6-4 and D4-4 and such. Or could these have been for vaporware MPC motors?

Thanks Scott. For forum members, I mentioned to Scott in the email to him with this scanned document that this technical report was authored by G. Harry Stine in 1970 for MPC. As I recall, Harry references some of the content of this report in his Handbook of Model Rocketry as a testament in particular to the strong safety record of model rocket engines and rocketry in general. I've had this document for probably a decade, but have never seen a copy online anywhere. Can't remember where I obtained the hard copy but probably in a batch of stuff off ebay. Earl
