Default I'm Back, kinda

Greetings to all!

I don't think I have been on YORF since 2015. In the interim, I had a first row seat for Hurricane Harvey and then spent 2 years out in far west Texas, 40 miles from the nearest grocery store or restaurant. All I had available was dial up service that was seldom worth the effort.

I finally moved back home to San Antonio a couple of weeks ago. Life is much different now than it used to be. I have promised SHE WHO MUST BE OBEYED that I will be liquidating my kit inventory. Have not kept up for several years,

I will probably be posting things on TRF and here. There are a few that I might try on EBay but I thoroughly dislike that platform and hate PayPal even worse.

I know that it is going to take a while. There are about 1000 total and some date back to the 60s. Many are from companies that have not been around for a long time. I'm not even sure if there is still anyone around who will remember me. In any event, I am very out of touch and any advice would be welcome.

Thank you,

Good to have you back for a visit! And...hopefully a longer stay in time.

If you are sure you want to liquidate, you can certainly post lists and prices here. But, make sure you are really ready to do so. Ya never know sometimes...the old bug may come back around in time.

The bug never really left, only the opportunity. Now I'm older and my health is worse that it used to be and I don't have the room. Right now, SHE WHO MUST BE OBEYED is a bit peeved because the boxes I brought back with me completely fill the guest room. I took them with me for the last 6 years because of a suspicion that they would find their way to a landfill if I left them unsupervised.

I should probably say that Gracie was not with me for the last 6 years. Her work was in San Antonio. While appointed at the coast, I got back every week to make sure the dog remembered what I smell like and to moonlight at the hospital but the last 2 years in west Texas involved a 6-8 hour trip one way. I only got back about once every 2 months.

I will likely begin posting next week. I'm trying to get everything worked out with Venmo and Zelle because I would really rather avoid PayPal if possible.

THanks for the welcome!

Welcome back....and I guess I'd better figure out Venmo or Zelle because I'm pretty sure I'll be interested in some of what you have in that stash.

I agree with Earl—thin the fleet for sure, but don't liquidate everything.

The only my wife wants thinned more than the fleet is me! Spending 2 years where the only shopping option was Stripes cost me over 60 lbs!

I'll keep my eye open but I don't think so. I bought old ESTES kits when I found them but mostly encountered smaller, more obscure mfgs. I also especially kept my eyes open for Centuri because, as a kid those are the one I most wanted.

Right now, almost everything is in boxes and I don't know or remember the contents of the individual boxes. I'm going to unseal them in order as I try to make my way from the door to the far wall. Whatever comes out is what will come up for sale.

We added Venmo since we had a guy that hauled off old electronics only accept it. It is OK, but it is a Paypal company. Just a different pricing model. The fees are less, since they hang onto your money longer. If someone pays you, and you then go buy something, it does not draw from your account balance. It charges your credit card (or I suppose your bank account). You must handle all transfers from Venmo to your bank account. That float helps them make money, I just don’t particularly want to hassle with it. For me, it is just a necessary evil I’ve had to use a few times.

JAL3, welcome back! Wow, a 1000 kits is incredible. I have around 200, and feel like I need to thin the inventory. There are so many I know will never get built. I donated about 20 at NSL for the raffle, but a number of those were kits that a friend “dumped” on me since he knew he would never build them. My inventory numbers still seems to creep up.

We are the point in our lives that a smaller home, with less yard to maintain, is looking very desirable. Besides all my kits, I have a pretty extensive wood shop and inventory of hardwoods. Sometime I think we ought to just liquidate everything, buy a monster RV, and hit the road for a year or so.

I will be a most attentive reader of your posts. Centuri is my primary collecting/building focus. Let me know if you come across the 1971 'Visible Astro' kit. The only one from the '71 catalog I don't have. But looking for another Micro Probe and Marauder two stagers, too.
