Default May 19th and 20th HPR Launch at Bong Recreation Area

The start of the WOOSH 2012 HPR launch series begins the weekend of May 19th and 20th. The WOOSH web calendar states a starting time of 1:00 pm. Range setup will start at 9:00 am. Volunteers are greatly appreciated and will be compensated for.

There is a good reason behind the late start all other weekends in May other than Mothers Day weekend were claimed. We were able to work out a shared agreement with Northern Illinois hunt club NAVHDA who is having a test involving their members and dogs. This is a live fire test, yes guns with real live bullets. The live fire portion of the tests will end around noon, other tests will continue they will deal with the distractions. These events will happen west of road “G” and on the plateau area.

Also because of this test no family dogs will be allowed in the SUZ area.

We have some additional safety considerations:
1. If you are searching for your rocket in the field wear a blaze orange hat or vest!
2. Use the “buddy system” if you go out into the field ensure that you have a way to communicate with someone back at the launch area. The WOOSH LCO and registration monitors CH 9

We will allow low power launches before noon, Micro Max to “E” if the winds cause the rockets to drift into the live fire operation area all launches must stop.

Russ: 9:00am would be the time to start set-up. normally we would set-up at 9 and start flying at 10...only difference this time is when we can start the hpr.
gee would it help to have blaze orange rockets I wonder....

There won't be a mad rush to set up for this event due to the late start, as long as we can get the "A" pads set up by ten we're golden. I'll be there around 8:30.

Mark - thanks for this info - very helpful!!!

I'm a bit confused by "road G". Is this the same as parking area G?

I have a picture below where I have marked Lot G, our usual launch and parking in red, and what I'm understanding to be the "live fire area" - big yellow box.

Does this appear to be correct?

Access road "G" is the road that connects to the runway at the west end.
