Rebuilding rockets I built as a kid
I think I want to go back and rebuild all of the rockets I built as a kid, at least the ones I can remember anyway, and fly them again.
On the list would be: Centuri Orion Estes Gyroc Estes Andromeda Centuri Quasar Estes Orbital Transport Centuri SST Shuttle 1 Centuri Long Tom Centuri Laser-X Estes Trident That's all I can remember for now. We'll see how it goes. Steve Last edited by BronzeGiant : 04-25-2017 at 01:57 PM. |

That would make a great retro fleet. I would suggest erockets as a place to start:

Yup, you're infected alright. A lot of us old guys have that disease. Steve, welcome to the club!

Balsamachining.com sells a Gyroc clone kit.
They also have laser cut balsa for the Orbital Transport. The Centuri Long Tom was one of the Estes Classic bring backs in 2009. Those kits show up on Ebay pretty often.

There are a lot of kits I'd like to build right. So many messed-up classics.
I would love to build, and finish immaculately, the old MPC kits I had early on. I did this with my original Moon Go!

I'm all about constructing re-dos of my early rocket fleet.
To date I have built a Mosquito (My very first build of 1973), have resurrected two of my original models (Mini-Brute Hornet and Delta II), currently on the workbench is a re-make of an MPC Lunar Patrol, a self designed parasite carrier rocket, an Estes Firefly glider, and an Estes K-31 Starblazer (My second ever model rocket build in 1973). On the upcoming 2017 build list are an Astron Spaceman, and Apogee II, an MPC Flatcat B/G, a Rascal R/G (from a 1970 issue of MRm), and a Big Bertha. Also pondering an Orbital Transport and a Scissorwing Transport. All of these models graced my early original collection.

I've repaired/rebuilt and built new versions of a few of my early kits, but mostly I've built the kits I stared at in the catalogs but could never afford.

When I was 11, I sent in a quarter to get the 73 Estes catalog and I spent many days pouring over it dreaming about all of the rockets I wished I could afford. I have since built and flown all 75 in the catalog.

That's pretty cool Scott. That rocket collection pretty much covers all of the K-kits as well as the Mini-Brute series. 1973 is the year I started in rocketry, and my catalog from that year is pretty dog-eared as well.
Kudos!
