Default Scale Talos booster with spin motors

I can’t seem to stop building 1/5 scale sounding rockets.

My Terrier Malemute left me wondering what else I could use the Terrier in.
That led my to both the Tater and the latest versions of the Black Brant XI.

And sometimes those fly with spin motors.
Wouldn’t you know it, but according to Peter Always’ drawings, 13mm is actually pretty close to scale for spin motors.

I know YORFers appreciate both spacemodeling and possibly off label use of motors.
So here’s my first test. 2x 1/2A3Ts. A breeze came up just before ignition, but I’m pretty happy with it.

Hard to get a feel for scale. How tall will this rocket be?

Here’s the Tater. It has a design challenge at the moment. Given the small size of the third stage Recruit, that I modeled the larger 4.8 square foot Terrier fins and the relatively heavy Talos build, I need to add about a pound to the Terrier Interstage somehow.

And a never flown Talos Terrier Improved Malemute. Or Talos Terrier Patriot, if you prefer.
This one sims with decent stability as built.
This stack is 9” shorter than a Black Brant XIa would be - about 1/2 the nosecone.

And I apologize for the sideways photos - but I can’t seem to anticipate correctly what the resize and upload will do to them.

Post the flight video if you get one. That's awesome.

I have never seen a pic of that particular configuration.

Thanks for the info! I've only ever seen the picture you included above. Any other diagram(s) is awesome.

My Tater is definitely sport scale. I started with the Terrier Improved Malemute - that uses the larger finned Terrier. And the Terrier is usually painted white. Then I went looking for other things I could build around it. The Tater looked fun - but I built the Talos with the fins as seen on a Black Brant. And I noticed later that the Tater used really different Terrier fins.

Since my Terrier was already white, I flipped the colors and did the Recruit orange. I hope it will help with visibility, too.

I did build the Recruit with a 'cone fin'. I test flew it on C11 and a D12 a couple weeks ago. Loaded up as it would be for a Tater flight - an Eggfinder mini in the nose and an Eggtimer Quark in a mid-body coupler avbay. Between the electronics and the batteries, the Cg is pretty far forward. It still needs some work - the dog barf plugged the vent holes I had and it came down drogueless.

Something for your Malemute.

The Talos fins are 5.7 sq.ft.
The Terrier fins are 2.5 sq.ft. Nike fins.

*note that the dimensions are in centimeters.
