On a separate note about the Thunder Series:

@Earl is correct; Thunderhawk and Thunderbird were made with Centuri tubing (ST-7 and ST-10), and Centuri nose cones (PNC-76 and PNC-106). This can be verified on their plans here at oldrocketplans.

ThunderRoc used Estes BT-60 tubing and an Estes PNC-60AH nose cone.

Compare the part numbers from the ThunderRoc instructions to that of Mean Machine:
http://www.spacemodeling.org/jimz/centuri/cen5340.pdf
https://estesrockets.com/wp-content...EAN_MACHINE.pdf

Both use body tube #30396 and Nose Cone #71043.

That being said, from what I can tell, BT-60 and St-16 are so close as to be interchangeable. eRockets even merged the tube and nose cone categories on it's website.

Since these newer short lived kits were produced by Estes in Penrose, I wonder if they would scan the plans for us?

The first two, the Thunder Hawk and Thunder Bird are definitely Centuri parts based. Both use Centuri tubing (ST-7 and ST-10) as well as Centuri plastic nose cones.

The Thunder Roc is the partial exception in that it uses an Estes plastic nose cone; the same Estes PNC as used in the Omega, Der Red Max, and others. The tubing for that kit is ST-16, though I am not *completely* sure about it as the Centuri ST-16 tubing and the Estes BT-60 are so very, very close in size and I have not directly compared the tubing in one of my Thunder Roc kits to ‘known’ Centuri tubing or known Estes tubing to tell which Centuri was using in that kit. Could go either way on that one. But being a long super roc type bird, they may have gone with the somewhat thicker walled Centuri tubing.

Earl

BT-60 has a wall thickness of 0.021"
ST-16 has a wall thickness of 0.020"

Estes tubing was thinner walled only if you went smaller than BT-55. BT-55 and up generally have a wall thickness of 0.021".

Thanks for the comparison numbers Mike.

Earlier this eve I did look at the catalog I.D. of each respective tube and saw that the Estes BT-60 was the slightest bit smaller I.D. than the Centuri ST-16. Verrry slight. But I did not do the full comparison on wall thicknesses. I was gonna try to pull out one of my opened Thunder Roc kits and compare that tubing to some boxed Centuri ST-16 I have and see how it matches up. But they are both very, very close for sure.

Getting a lot of neat unknown Centuri info on this kit and general Centuri info on this thread.

So this eRockets reference is wrong?

I wonder what they're actually selling, since they've combined ST-16 and BT-60:

The numbers are inconsistent, 1.64"-1.60" would have a thickness of 0.020".

Since most of my builds are actually old vintage kits, not clones, I can tell you even Estes body tubes are not all the same. The dia. and thickness of Estes body tubes have changed over the years. The differences are so small, one could not even tell. I have a vintage Centuri USS America and the ST-16 is exactly the same as the older Estes Bt-60. Also the ST-5 tubes are identical to some, not all Estes Bt-5 tubes.
