Thanks to Bill Eichelberger for making a 600dpi scan available of the Centuri Viking decal.

Woody,

The basics is that you print stuff on decal paper. They sell paper for laser and ink jet printers. If you're printing on ink jet paper with an ink jet printer, most papers require that you clear coat the decals before getting them wet. They will run otherwise.

That will get you some decals.

The part that I'm completely glossing over is that people that sell them will usually generate completely new art work in vector format. This gives a better final product that can be scaled as well.

The other issue is printing the color white. You used to be able to buy printers that could take a white cartridge to actually print the color white. That's not really a viable option right now. What people are doing is buying white decal paper and printing on that for white.

I just purchased some laser printer decal paper from Amazon yesterday.

I should be printing decals soon.

Stan

Let's put it this way, Woody. I can do it. That tells you all you need to know about that.
Seriously, what Stan said pretty well covers it. You'll burn up some ink in the trial and error phase, but the learning curve isn't terribly steep.

While you are in the trial and error phase, use regular paper instead of your decal paper. Set your printer to economy mode to save some ink. Print your test page and make corrections as needed. Once you know it is cleaned up, sized, and colored correctly, put in the decal paper and set the printer software to high quality or photo mode.

That was in my head, just didn't make it to the screen. Thanks.

Tango Papa has written a guide to making decals that is posted on his site.

I printed some decals yesterday. I used some of Kurt Schachners decals as a starting point since they're already in vector format. I think they came out ok...

That's good information.
I have a color printer in storage.
I didn't use it enough and every time I went to use it the ink dried out or something.
At over $50 for the color and B/W ink cartridges, I just put it up.
Printer was only $30 when I bought it!

Being able to print my own decals would be awesome. All these scratch builds I have laying around and all they are warring is under ware (primer or paint).
Would be nice to put some pants and a shirt on them.
Would save me a fortune too, in buying OOP kits on Ebay!!!
That's a big risk in itself due to some times the decals are shot anyways.
Many times the decals are to small or finly detailed for Mark to do at StickerShock.
Plus, I don't want to bother him with his life's current events.

Please note that those decals were printed on Sunnyscopa standard laser decal paper. I haven't applied any of them yet so I don't know how well they'll work.

Had anybody used this decal paper? Is it ok stuff?
I also noticed that there is a glossy option in the print settings. I'll give that a try next time.

FWIW, the decal paper was an impulse buy from Amazon...
