I’m a big fan of the Quest 50mm Tube and nose cone. Being cheap, I ordered these parts, plus centering rings, from Quest. Pretty cheap — around $10. And, I painted my scratch-built model metallic black with a metallic purple nose cone. Very similar.

Those look awesome! I really like the metallic black. My purple is the Krylon Shimmer Metallic.

Thus far I've wasted my Saturday morning painting an Estes Goblin in its third color, (yellow, red-orange, orange metallic,) respraying a BT-5 Big Der Red Max with a more pleasing metallic red and black, and finally got something other than gloss white on the MPC Flare Patriot that I built back in 2001. Must be something in the air besides stink bugs.

That Metallic Black/Purple color combo looks really great.

Painted and decaled my Estes 1271 Astron Renegades

The red and black is a clone.

The red, yellow, and black is a rehab of an eBay rescue of an original.

And finally a vintage launch picture from 1978 of my original gray and black Renegade, sadly long gone.
