OK, back to the build...
Next up after the tubes are glued on is marking the fin location. I never had good results with the fin jigs that Estes provided in their kits. I just used them as a marking guide. Pic #1 After the fin locations are marked I used an Estes fin marking guide I drew the lines. Pic #2 Before I glued the fins on the instructions say to add filets where the tubes join. Maybe it's because of the larger fins but I didn't get real pretty filets. I came up with an easy solution and actually looks pretty good. I had some triangle stock left over from another project and used it to cover up my ugly filets. Pic #3 That;s my wife acting as my "hand model" for the pictures.

I originally tried white glue and they looked terrible. Then I used little masking tape dams and 5 minute epoxy and the fillets look great. |

I have switched to epoxy for fillets on ALL rockets.
For LPR I just use a smaller amount. Fillets always turn out perfectly smooth with ZERO shrinkage. For LPR it is not so much for strength as it is for smoothness and adds very little weight. I don't use epoxy for general construction until above "D" power maximum. Most of my 24mm rockets have "D" power as a minimum though. That upscale Viper begs for F39T or E28T power to correctly simulate the blue-flame zero smoke of the engines in "turbo" mode.

Does anyone know the length of the Colonial Viper's PNC-50SV nose cone (not including the shoulder) after nip the tip?
