Default Cox parachutes

Would anyone know if the original Cox parachutes might still be available somewhere? I just bought a Honest John and it would be pretty cool if I can find the chute for it. I know it's unlikely that I'll find any but I thought I'd give it a try anyway.I'm also looking for a Little Joe ll,if anyone has one for sale please get back to me.

Cox parachutes come up in mixed lots on eBay from time to time. You'll just need to keep an eye out for them. If I had one I'd send it to you free, but I've never collected Cox anything. There are probably a few guys on this forum that have one.

Yeah, what mojo said.

They do come up from time to time, but ya really gotta be dedicated in keeping tabs on what comes up on eBay. Don’t expect to visit eBay once a week or once every two weeks to find things like the parachutes, the MPC kits asked about earlier, etc.

eBay is not perfect but without it, let’s face it: many of us would not have the kits and memorabilia that each holds dear in their own way. But it may take one many months if not in fact years to find particular desired items. I looked for over a decade for a Centuri Visible Astro Kit before one finally came up. And you gotta be prepared to possibly fork over some decent coin for a given item as well.

Good luck on your search(es) and maybe someone can make it easy and offer some things in a private sale.

Earl

Default Cox para chutes

Yes, Earl I definitely hear you there.I'm pretty tenacious when it comes to this sort of thing, I check ou,t eBay just about every day, several times a day.Gotta couple of nice buys off there already. What I'm looking for now is to find the parts to convert the old FSI models to either 24 or 29 mm motors. I found a potential source for some of them so If I can find what I'm looking for I would like to be able to fly them. That same source may also have the old FSI motors but I don't really trust them, you never know what to expect with them. Yo think maybe you could point me in the right direction on this? Oh, and by the way Earl, I bought some of your LDRS videos several years ago and I've always really enjoyed them. Are you still doing them?

I don’t have too very much in the way of FSI. A couple of kits and a few of their old motors just to have some ‘representation’ of them in my collection. I do recall at some point seeing the motor mount converters that FSI used to offer to retro-fit Estes Maxi-Brutes to FSI E and F motors. But, yes, surely there is someone out there who has already or could custom make some rings to fit 24 or 29mm motors into FSI tubes.

And thanks for the comments on the videos. I really enjoyed doing them for over 13 years, but they were a ton of work as a ‘side-line’ business aside from my full-time job. Unfortunately, some long-standing family health issues began to really impact my ability to be away for travel around ‘02 and ‘03 necessitated that I put the video effort aside. I had hoped it would be only for a few years at the time, but sadly dragged on for many years and I have not been able to resume nor travel since then.

But, it was great fun for those years I did them and I enjoyed meeting and telling the project stories of so many LDRS attendees. And, I got to see a huge bunch of AP burned over the years! I guesstimated once that I had witnessed well over 10,000 HPR flights. Lots of smoke and noise!

Again, thanks for your comments. Take care and good luck on your searches!

Earl

Do a search for what you want. At the top middle of the results box, there is a "Save this search" link, that if you click it, it will automatically e-mail you when new listings for that search come up.

I also see there is an app for that. Just found it, so have not tried it.

Yeah, I have ‘several’ saved searches. Problem is, the eBay email notifications are far from ‘instantaneous’, usually sent out overnight for items fitting your search criteria that have been newly listed that day. By the time one actually receives and/or reads those emails, the items may have (but not always) come and gone, especially if it comes up as a Buy It Now.

But it never hurts to have those saved searches; it can help some. Also, it helps to do searches under ‘All Categories’. Not every seller lists things in the proper categories. Just picked up four Enerjet motors two days ago (one F67 and four E24s) that had been listed for several days with no bids or no purchases (the E’s were BuyItNow). The F sold last night with only one other bid. Why? They were all listed under HO scale trains or something similar. Had I not searched for ‘Enerjet’ under All Categories, they would not have popped up. They had not popped up under Rocketry or Spacecraft or the other model rocket related categories eBay had. Not the only time that has happened on other vintage rocketry items.

That's how I search ebay as well.
All categories ONLY, always.
One often can get great deals when items are listed in improper categories.

Earl

I see someone nabbed a bunch of Cox D8-0 and D8-3 motors from the same seller.

He still has 5 Estes D13-0's available along with some Cox C6-4 motors.

Oops. Was so happy about the Enerjets that I forgot to mention the D8's. Did not have any of those. Yes, still some Cox C motors there, but I did not need those.
